Hi Audiotheque subscribers. Thanks for joining the site. We now have thirty people signed up from around the world, including the USA, Australia and the UK. It would be great if you could use our forums to tell the rest of us a little bit about yourself and where you are from. I'm looking forward to hearing your examples of short-form audio drama, and producing some myself. As the site develops, I'll feed you with regular digests of our activities. So watch this space. Best Regards Rob Watson

a little about Jennifer Deer
I received word of this project thru the listserv of AIR - the association of independents in radio, in the US, of which I am a member. I have never created a radio drama, but love the form, and have always thought that I would one day, as it bridges my two main careers-- I spent 20 years in theatre before going into radio and audio producing. The work I do currently is primarily arts and culture coverage, personal narrative with sound (a kind of audio drama), and I also co-curate a podcast of audio documentary work (where pretty much anything goes, and versions of radio drama certainly slip in) called Big Shed: www.bigshed.org I am excited about this new site, although a little confused by it. Hopefully all will be revealed in time, as more people join, post pieces, and an online community evolves. One thing I wondered -- in an audio blog, Rob says to post your "3 minute" audio dramas-- but no where else did I see that what constitutes a "short" audio drama is that it be "3 minutes." Is this the rule here? jdeer

Three minutes
Hi Jennifer Three minutes is a guide - we've been discussing how long a listeners attention span might be, and three minutes seems useful to start new producers off with their dramas. Do you have more thoughts? Rob Watson rwatson@dmu.ac.uk

3 minutes
Hi Rob,   just a contribution...   three minutes does seem a bit short although having sat in lectures at DMU .............  :-) I'm glad that the actual limit is down to byte size, this will form it's own limit and I seem to think people that are interested and engage with audio drama will have the attention span to cope with a longer piece, (most radio dramas and comedies run for about half an hour) and if not, a visitor could always jump to the next piece. I know I flicked through the first 30 seconds or so of a lot of pieces to see which ones grabbed my attention.       Steve Martin p08256343@myemail.dmu.ac.uk
