I’m reading Pierre Levy’s book ‘Collective Intelligence’ and found this passage, and thought it was worth sharing:
“From singular utterances to creative listening, languages emerge and drift along the stream of communication, borne by thousands of voices that call and respond to one another, take risks, provoke and deceive, hurling words, expressions, and new accents across the abyss of non-sense. In this way an artist can appropriate an expression inherited from earlier generations and help it evolve. This is one of the primary social functions of art: participation in the continuous invention of the languages and signs of a community. But the creator of language is always a community” (Lévy 1997 p.124).

DemonFM is Leicester's new community radio station. Run from De Montfort University in Leicester the station covers new music and arts for young people between the ages of 16-30. One of our shows is Exposure - Anything you can do in front of a microphone. We've been playing out some of the Audiotheque dramas. The reaction has been really encouraging. We are hoping to do more work for Audiotheque - perhaps even some live performance. You can listen live on www.demonfm.co.uk - the sites not ready yet, but tune in between 7-9pm for Exposure.
Just listened to Kill the Camaraman First. Wow, been blown away by the sheer energy and vitality of the story and the soundscape. It's increadibly inventive and thought provoking, moves along at a fantastic pace and is almost entirely self-referential. Wonderful stuff.
I've been hunting around the net to see what type of audio drama I can find. I've started to use a file sharing application, which has been very useful for accessing audio drama. It's so much more convineinet to download a file and listen to it on my iPod. I can walk around and do other things. I'm not stuck to one room, or listening in real time.
Music is cited as the really big problem associated with file sharing, but I was wondering how drama producers feel about having their work distributed in this way? I wonder what the economic models are for audio drama? Is it a commission led process, or do producers make any money from circulating and selling their productions either on-line or by CD?
I've been subscribing to various broadcasters podcasts. This programme - The Night Air - from ABC Australia has a wonderful collection of podcasts, with an eclectic mixture of soundscapes, narrative pieces and discussion.

At the end of this week (Friday 30th November) I will be closing down the Audiotheque Google Group.
I will copy to www.audiotheque.co.uk the links and the background information that we have posted so far.
Today I've added Conor's links to the Links Forum on this site. There is some excellent examples of innovative audio on these sites.
Please feel free to add more links to new threads.
Welcome to the first blog of the Audiotheque website. After many months of hard work, we now have a version of the site that we can test and pilot. So many thanks to Nathan for spending so much time developing the site and taking on board my occasionally incoherent wishes.
Over the next few months we are hoping to promote Audiotheque to many new users, and to migrate some of the older Audiotheque blogs and groups on to a single site.
Over 60 complaints to the BBC about Six Impossible Things, Thursday's Afternoon Play about a shooting in Denmark. Not good timing.
